Don Andrés Pérez de la Higuera y don Francisco Hernández de la Higuera, hermanos, albaceas testamentarios de Juan Díaz Matamoros, y como esposos de doña Francisca y doña Inés Díaz Matamoros, hijas del referido Juan Díaz, fundaron una capellanía de misas por el alma de su suegro, con 710 pesos de oro común de principal y 35 pesos y medio anuales de renta, los cuales fueron situados en el ingenio de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción; se nombró por primer capellán al bachiller Bartolomé Pérez, con la obligación de decir 24 misas rezadas anuales, en reverencia de la Santísima Cruz, en el altar del Covento de Jalapa.
