Don Fernando Cortés de Monroy, Alcalde Mayor que fue de esta provincia, dio su poder cumplido a Melchor de los Reyes y a Francisco Luis, vecinos de Jalapa, y a cualesquiera de ellos in solidum, generalmente para en todos sus pleitos, causas civiles y criminales, y para que puedan recibir y cobrar los maravedís, derechos y acciones, y otros bienes que le fueren debidos, y de lo que recibiere, pueda dar las cartas de pago, finiquito y lasto que convengan; asimismo, para que puedan cobrar y aprehender, un esclavo fugitivo llamado José, herrado en el rostro, y remitirlo a la parte donde el otorgante se hallare.
