Don José Martín, gobernador actual del pueblo de San José Miahuatlán; sus alcaldes Don Diego de Mendoza, Don Diego de San Francisco y Don Juan Andrés; alguacil mayor José de Martín, dijeron que en cumplimiento de una real cédula de Su Majestad para que en los pueblos de esta jurisdicción se pongan maestros, la justicia de Jalapa les nombró por maestro a Lucas Díaz de la Cueva, español, vecino de Jalapa; y los otorgantes se obligaron a pagarle 200 pesos de oro común, 12 fanegas de maíz anuales, durante un lapso de cuatro años en que ha de tener a su cargo la escuela; con más un huevo el viernes y otro el sábado por cada muchacha o muchacho a la semana.
